Nashville, TN, October 6, 2025 – The Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC) proudly announced the winners of its highly anticipated 2025 Apprentice of the Year (AOY) competition at SPARK: The Electrician’s Expo, held September 26–28 in Phoenix, AZ.
After three days of intense challenges testing electrical knowledge, technical skills, safety, and speed, Logan Bluemel of Electrical Process Solutions from the IEC Greater Cincinnati chapter was named the 2025 IEC National Apprentice of the Year. Will Coggswell of Weifield Group Electrical Contracting from the IEC Rocky Mountain chapter earned second place, while Brandon Stewart of A&G Electric from CenTex IEC took third.
In addition to the overall winners, IEC recognized outstanding performance in individual categories:
- Conduit Bending: Mathias Thorgesen, Pucek Electric, IEC Greater San Antonio
- Written Exam: Mathias Thorgesen, Pucek Electric, IEC Greater San Antonio
- Ladder Logic Exam: Logan Bluemel, Electrical Process Solutions, IEC of Greater Cincinnati
- Productivity Challenge: Will Coggswell, Weifield Group Electrical Contracting, IEC Rocky Mountain
- Motor Controls (Wire-Off): Eli Eis, Young Electric, IEC Kansas

Thirty apprentices from IEC chapters across the nation competed in this year’s record-breaking AOY competition. Each graduate of the IEC Apprenticeship Program demonstrated their expertise in a series of high-stakes challenges, including written testing, troubleshooting, conduit bending, complex installation projects, and live wire-off events.
