That is why IEC is working aggressively on Capitol Hill and with federal agencies to protect the interests of independent electrical contractors and the merit shop construction industry.
But with the 2026 midterm elections just around the corner, the stakes are higher than ever—and we need your help with one simple first step: completing an IEC PAC Prior Authorization Form.
The 2026 election will help determine the future of Congress.
On November 3, voters will elect all 435 members of the U.S. House and one-third of the U.S. Senate. Control of both chambers will be decided by a relatively small number of competitive races. Republicans currently hold narrow majorities in both the House and Senate, making the outcome of close races particularly important to the future of IEC’s legislative agenda.
IEC PAC needs to be ready.
IEC PAC is preparing for a final fundraising push before Election Day so we have the resources necessary to support candidates who understand and support independent electrical contractors, the merit shop and the issues that matter to our industry.
But before IEC PAC can directly solicit eligible employees of any company, federal law requires IEC to receive written authorization from a member of the restricted class of an IEC member company.
That is why we are asking you to take this important first step today.
What is prior authorization?
Federal law requires trade association PACs like IEC PAC to receive written authorization from a corporate member company before the PAC can directly solicit personal political contributions from that company’s eligible executive and administrative personnel.
Signing the IEC PAC Prior Authorization Form does not commit you, your company or your employees to contribute one dollar to IEC PAC.
It simply gives IEC permission to communicate directly with you and other eligible employees about IEC PAC, its activities and opportunities to support candidates who understand and support the electrical contracting industry.
In other words, authorization is permission to ask—not a commitment to give.
Why does IEC PAC matter?
IEC is fighting every day to make sure independent electrical contractors have a fair opportunity to compete and grow.
Among the issues IEC is working on are:
- Defeating the Faster Labor Contracts Act (FLCA) that would undermine voluntary negotiations between employers and unions and impose government-mandated terms on private-sector workplaces following a successful union organizing election. The FLCA has passed the House and is now before the Senate, making the 2026 elections particularly important to this fight.
- Opposing government-mandated Project Labor Agreements (PLAs) that can restrict competition and make it more difficult for merit shop electrical contractors and their skilled employees to compete for taxpayer-funded construction projects.
- Advancing commonsense permitting reform so infrastructure, energy, utility, and other critical projects can move from the drawing board to construction without unnecessary delays, duplicative reviews, and regulatory uncertainty.
- Strengthening apprenticeship and workforce development by supporting employer-driven Registered Apprenticeship programs, expanding access and funding to workforce training, and removing unnecessary barriers to growing the skilled electrical workforce.
- Providing greater certainty for infrastructure investment and funding so contractors can plan, hire, train and invest with confidence.
- Promoting commonsense regulations that protect workers and the public while allowing electrical contractors to do what they do best: build, power, and maintain America’s infrastructure efficiently and safely.
These issues have real consequences for your company, your employees, and the future of the electrical contracting industry. But IEC can’t facilitate positive change without policymakers who are willing to give IEC’s priorities meaningful consideration.
The clock is ticking
The November election will be here before we know it.
IEC PAC’s goal is to have enough resources on hand to make a meaningful difference in the close House and Senate races that could determine which party controls Congress and whether candidates who support the merit shop have a strong voice in Washington.
But we cannot wait until the final weeks of the campaign to build our fundraising base.
The time to prepare is now.
